The 6th Annual Scottish Tug-in
10 June 2012

The 6th Annual Scottish Tug-In, hosted by Glasgow Richmond Model Boat Club, was held on Sunday 10th June at Richmond Park, Glasgow. Under cloudy but dry skies, 15 entrants registered to test their tug towing skills in the single and double tow events, round the extensive course which had been laid out on the pond.

While waiting their turn to compete, all Agnes & Jamsie
entrants and spectators were very well catered for by club stalwarts Agnes and Jamsie, who provided hot and cold snacks and drinks from the new kitchen, in the recently renovated clubhouse.

The event got under way at 11am, it was soon apparent that a very high standard was being set, it was great to see newcomers taking part and achieving very good results in front of a good turn out of spectators. The young ones were not forgotten, the "Hands on boats" were kept busy for most of the day. Again thanks to Ronnie and his team, who kept them operating.

Neil & John manning the raffleThe usual raffle, expertly managed by Neil McCarron, was also doing a good trade, again, thanks to all the members who donated the many prizes. Eddie our resident tug cam expert was also busy following the on water action, one of the videos can be see on video gallery 6.

This year some of the double tow teams were made up so that those with more experience were paired with entrants who were newcomers to tug towing. This worked well, as all the experienced entrants, gave freely of their advice and skills, which made for a really good day.

The double tow competition, was judged Tug towingthis year by Norry Mason, who did a very good job keeping very accurate records of the scores. Unfortunately just after lunch, the weather gods let us down and we had torrential rain for nearly all the afternoon. Despite this, the competitions went ahead, it is a credit to all entrants’ judges and spectators who did not let the rain dampen their spirits.

At the end of the competition, around 4 pm, the results were in.
