The 5th Annual Scottish Tug-In

The 5th annual Scottish Tug-In took place on Sunday the 5th of June 2011 at Richmond Park Glasgow. The weather Gods were kind this year and it remained dry all day with a brisk wind which proved challenging for all the competitors.

Single tow     Tugs in harbour

Entrants came from all over the UK with Ellesmere Port and BalneMoor Clubs being well represented. Competitions were held for single and double tows and in  the end Mike Ellis of Ellesmere Port won both the single and with David Morrison of Richmond the double tow.

David & Mrs MuirDavid also won the Don Muir Memorial Trophy presented for the first time this year for the Richmond member with the highest overall score in both competitions.

The trophy was presented by Mrs Dorothy Muir who sponsored the trophy in memory of her late husband, a stalwart member of the Richmond tug towing team who passed away last year and is sorely missed at the club.

The event proved to be very successful and was enjoyed by all who took part. A special word of thanks is appropriate to all the club members, non tug tow’ers and helpers who gave of their time and worked hard on the day setting up, in the kitchen, taking pictures etc. to ensure the smooth running of this event.

The only disappointment however was that this national event was very poorly supported by other Scottish Model Boat Clubs, especially in light of the fact, that others were prepared to travel from long distances.

What is happening to our hobby in Scotland?
