The Model Boat Convention
Haydock Park

      23/24 August 2014

In August, GRMBC attend "The Model Boat Convention" at Haydock Race course, this is one of the most prestigious model boat events in the UK. In such a big year for the club, it being our 30th Anniversary, it was fitting that the club attended such a major show. The event is held over two days, & is attended by Haydock Parkabout 50 to 60 clubs from all over the UK and also from as far afield as Russia. There was also 15 to 20 traders at the event this year. This truly is a massive event and the standard of the build quality throughout is top class, one needs to attended the event to truly understand how good it is.

This was the clubs first year attending the event, it was a daunting task to organise the clubs attendance and make sure the club was shown at its best.

I have attended the event for the past four years and was very well aware of the high standard that is expected. We are lucky at GRMBC, that we have quite a few top class builder, this made it very difficult to choose what boats  to display. In the end, we had a good collection of top class boats, we also had a few of Guy's steam plants, it was truly an amazing example of  his engineering skills. Guys steam engines

I felt this was a very successful event for GRMBC and puts us up there with the best. In my opinion, we where in the top 20% of the best displays. This was our first year there and if the club attends again it can only go from strength to strength, I would recommended we attend again.

I would like to give a big thanks to all who made this event possible and helped out at the show and for helping with the run up, there is so many people that need to be thanked but there are a few that need to be mentioned, Jim Stevenson, David Hamilton and Iain Wilkins these guys not only manned the stall and set it up, they loaded and unloaded the van and carried the boats up quite a few stairs. Also a wee thank to our chairman, Brian Cowell, for his words of wisdom on the final display “that boat needs to be moved 2 mm to the left” I  wouldn’t expect anything different..
