7th Warship Weekend heading

12th to 13th July 2014.

Organised by Scottish Model Warship Association, hosted by GRMBC.

The day started with a little drizzle, and overcast.  Gazebos were erected in record time this year, special thanks to members of both organisations for their efforts.  Harbour side set up looked fantastic this year with the addition of the new pontoons, likewise this was put together in record time, many thanks guys.

Gazebo City

Exhibitors had arrived from far and wide………. Norfolk, Tyneside, Aberdeenshire and Belgium to name a few. Many local clubs also attended.  We also attracted two major traders to the show this year, Robin from Scalewarship and Steve from Chylds Hall Model Shipyard. Both had some excellent items for sale and appeared to be very busy at times.  Again this year Dave Wooley kindly came along to record the event for Model Boats Magazine…..I think we gave Dave plenty to write about.  Thank you gentlemen.

Crowds were a little slow arriving on the Saturday morning, but all in all, a good level of attendance was attained throughout the day, maybe the weather was a big player as heavy rain showers and clouds were forecast.

Canberra under towDuring the day, many warships were to be found out on the water, much fun was had by all.  It was nice to see the CANBERRA being towed by the Belgium contingent, she was indeed an impressive sight.  Along with the water borne activities there were also many static warships to be viewed also.

Saturday was largely a meet and greet fun day with Sunday being the competition day.

Sunday started with light drizzle but soon succumbed to scorching hot sunny weather, which was to stay with us all day.  Competitions were competed for on the water, namely single and 3 man maneuvers, along with best in show and our own Bill Loney Memorial Trophy.  There was also plenty of free sailing enjoyed by all.  We also managed to see CANBERRA under her own steam, well done guys, splendid effort.

Lastly, a few thank yous. The catering staff need to be singled out once again for their splendid efforts this year.  SMWA and GRMBC members, what can I say…….. We really couldn’t pull this show off without you all.  Many thanks.
