Double Event – Double Fun

Two Spellings of Sail or is it Sale?

The Auction, Barbecue & Night Sail, held on the 3rd of November were very successful, what else would you expect from GRMBC. Again we were pleased to have not only our own members but also valued friends from other clubs including Edinburgh, Greenock, East Kilbride, not to mention Knightswood.

The Auction was excellently chaired by Brian, who was expertly assisted by Colin & Happy groupMichael. Brian managed to keep everyone happy, making sure that those selling got a good price and buyers got a bargain – hard trick to do. During the day we were kept well fed with a continual supply of hot pies – thanks Pam.

Rather than charging commission sellers and buyers were asked to make a donation to the Fire Service Benevolent Fund – this raised  a goodly amount.

IanAs the sun began to set the sounds of  “where is the barbecue?” and “does this gas bottle fit?” were heard. Soon the answers to these was clear or not clear as smoke was seen drifting across the water – reminds me of a song.

SubWhile this was going on, we started preparing our boats for the evening sail and as the light faded, the boats took to the water, one even went under the water!.

It really was good to see all of them sailing with their lights blazing – or at least glowing.

The announcement of “grubs up” came and we all joined the queue for the fantastic burgers being cooked by Michael, Ian and Chris. Just as we thought things couldn’t get any better Pam arrived with Southern Fried Chicken bits, think the posh name is goujons well these were certainly “good yins”

Colin eats the piesAs the evening wore on, we all drifted into the club house and sat reflectively thinking of the great day we’d had, or were we all too stuffed to move.

It was nice to see Colin back on form after his illness but did he have to eat all the pies?

GRMBC would like to thank everyone who participated in the event and hope to see you all again. Special thanks to the small group who worked hard throughout the day to make it a success – we know who you are.
